We’re seeking an experienced, relationship-centred kaiako to join our vibrant rural kura. Pūrākaunui School’s multi-level classrooms, strong whānau partnerships, and rich natural environment create powerful, real-world learning opportunities for tamariki. We are looking for someone who is passionate and committed to being part of our school community and helping us grow. We are a small school with a big heart, seeking excellence in teaching and learning.

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Differentiate planning and teaching across multiple year levels in a small-class setting.
  • Confidently deliver Structured Literacy using the IdeaL program and support foundational to advanced literacy progress.
  • Recognise and respond to neurodiversity (e.g., ADHD, dyslexia, autism profiles) through flexible, strengths-based approaches.
  • Apply trauma-informed, wellbeing-focused practice that helps learners feel safe, regulated, and ready to learn.
  • Identify and extend gifted & talented ākonga with appropriate challenge and enrichment pathways.
  • Use play and project-based pedagogies to drive engagement, inquiry, and cross-curricular learning.
  • Enjoy being active and learning outdoors - beaches, bush, and community spaces are part of our classroom.
  • Value EnviroSchools principles and kaitiakitanga, weaving sustainability into daily learning.
  • Bring creativity and a love of the arts (visual, music, performance, or integrated arts learning).
  • Integrate te reo Māori and tikanga authentically across the programme, happy to teach Kapa Haka.
  • Build warm partnerships with students, staff, and whānau in our tight-knit community.

Teacher Aide

Fixed Term: Term 4 2025

12-15 hours/week (negotiable)

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher aide to support learning in our small, multi-level rural school. This is a fixed-term, part-time role for Term 4 offering 12–15 hours per week (hours are negotiable).

There is a possibility of the contract being renewed or extended for 2026, depending on school needs and funding.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support students in literacy and mathematics, including structured literacy programs.
  • Assist with classroom management and supervision.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to support individual learning needs.
  • Participate in planning and preparation for learning activities.

Requirements:​​​​​​​

  • Experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred
  • Applicants are expected to have completed, or be willing to complete, professional development in structured literacy and mathematics. Training will be available for those who have not yet completed it.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Reliability, flexibility, and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
