Pūrākaunui School
One Waka. One Crew. Many Journeys.

Our School

Set amidst farmland and native bush overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the land slopes north towards the sun and has a fantastic view. We have two sunny classrooms with log burners, and a very well-stocked purpose-built library.

Our school grounds are huge, with a tennis court, a soccer field, a playground, a large and very popular sandpit, shrubberies and big trees, hammocks, lots of hut-building potential and a Pizza oven!

Pūrākaunui is situated on the hill between Port Chalmers and Waitati, with a northward opening inlet.  It has a sheltered bay with a long sandy beach reaching out to the headland, which is the location of an ancient Māori Pā, Māpoutahi. Pūrākaunui is a picturesque and relaxing village with spectacular walks and places to explore nearby.

Our contact number is 022 414 6351 and the office email is office@purakaunui.school.nz

Our community is extremely supportive of the school, which is a focal point for the townships of Long Beach, Pūrākaunui and Osborne.

The children enjoy being part of a large "school family" with all ages from 5 to 12 mixing for play and study.  Our friendly and deeply committed staff ensure the education programme is fun, varied and challenging.
